I bought 16 blue shrimp back in may, all arrived healthy and there were 2 extra. I added them to a 10 gallon cycled tank with plenty of plants along with some guppies. After about a month I saw a couple of dead shrimp in my tank and immediately checked the nitrate (slightly high) and changed the water. However a few weeks later more shrimp were dead, water parameters were perfect and all other life was showing no signs of sickness. I had 4 shrimp left when I moved them into my second 10 gallon which has thriving petstore shrimp in it, and two more shrimp have died in the week since. Its July and almost all of my shrimp are dead.
My suspicions are poor genetics or something else which isnt fixable or unknown problems.
I purchased 10 Shubunkins to replace a few that I purchased 2 years ago, that were snatched up by a predator in my Koi pond. I believe they were supposed to be 2.5-3.5" in size. Surprisingly they were a quite nice size! All 10 were very healthy and are thriving beautifully in my Koi pond with the other fish.
